Portrait of Rob Lanner by Sherman, in Milwaukee, WI

CDV portrait inscribed Rob Lanner on back, with a photographers imprint and tax stamp (indicating image dates from 1864-1866). The photographer was W H Sherman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. William H Sherman was born about 1822 in Vermont, and learned the daguerreotype process in 1846. He opened his first Milwaukee studio in 1860, and remained in that city until his death in 1897.
