An exotically beautiful bird with an equally beautiful song. His nest, woven of grasses, string, etc., is suspended from the end of a limb from twenty to forty feet high. He shows a marked preference for elm trees. The eggs are from four to six in number, white, marked with fine brown and black lines. Particularly valuable is this bird to farmers and orchardists, for he consumes great numbers of the hairy and tent caterpillar and of the brown-tail and gypsy moths. His breeding range is North America east of the Rockies, from southern Canada to the northern part of the Gulf States. Winters from southern Mexico to northern South America.
